Reference desk

The Ledding Library reference desk and collection are located in the center of the library. Our reference collection includes non-fiction books to aid librarians in answering your questions and to ensure patrons have regular access to resources such as the Oregon Revised Statues, encyclopedias, indexes, phonebooks for Oregon and Washington, local history resources and much more. We also have a collection dedicated to "Local Information" consisting of DVDs of Milwaukie City Council meetings, Council and Planning Commission minutes, Municipal Code, Transportation System Plan, Public Work Standards, budget and other public notice documents from the City of Milwaukie, Clackamas County and other local governing bodies.

Our reference librarians are here for you in person, by phone and by email. The reference librarians will help you locate the items you want and need. If our library or another library in Clackamas County does not have an item that you want, we will try to get it for you from another library within the United States. There is no charge for this service, which is called Interlibrary Loan

Answerland.org provides chat and email reference service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In Person

The main job of the reference staff is to help people use the library. This may involve helping patrons use reference books, but it can also mean recommending a good read, showing a person where our books on CD are located, or providing help on the copy machine or the Internet. Any time you need help using the library, just ask at the Reference Desk.

By Phone

We have telephone reference service as well. Phone us at 503-786-7546 and we'll try to provide you with the information that you need.

By Email

Send us an email at Ledding@milwaukieoregon.gov. For questions specific to the children's department, email Leddingkids@milwaukieoregon.gov. The Ledding Library Reference Librarians check this email box regularly. They will respond as quickly as possible during normal library hours.

Answerland

If you have a question outside library hours, try using Answerland an Oregon Libraries Network. Answerland is an online reference service provided by Oregon's libraries. If you have a reference question, you may chat with a librarian or email Answerland your question. Answerland is staffed by librarians from all over Oregon -- the person you are talking to may not be working at the Ledding Library.
