Project Areas
Early in the update process, City Council asked for public input on the prioritization of TSP projects, which are grouped into 7 different issue areas:
1) Pedestrian
2) Bicycle
3) Public Transit
4) Street Network
5) Freight
6) Neighborhood Traffic Management
7) Downtown Parking
For each issue area, there is a master list of the identified needs, categorized as high-, medium-, or low-priority projects. Links to each of the project lists can be found below, under "Supporting Documents." Directions and a worksheet were provided to facilitate public engagement and discussion.
Key Topics
As part of the 2013 update, there are 3 aspects of these project lists to consider:
A. Confirming Project Priorities – Prioritization of projects within each modal system (e.g., pedestrian, bicycle, public transit, etc.)
- Is the prioritization still accurate in terms of targeting those projects that are most important for improving that particular mode?
- Are there any important projects that are not listed?
B. Ranking the Top Projects – Identification of the high priority projects that are most critical and should be targeted for funding
- What are the top 10 projects across all modes/issues for which the Council should be actively seeking funding within the next several years?
C. Identifying Other Needs – Implementation of the transportation goals of the 2013 TSP
- What are the next steps for moving forward on specific transportation issues, such as doing further study or making concept plans?
June 3 Public Meeting
The City held a general public meeting on Monday, June 3, 2013 to hear community members share their answers to the above questions. A summary report is available here and through a link below. (Note that the full summary is a very large PDF file -- a smaller version that includes only the report and Attachments 1 & 2, is available here and through another link below.)
Input received at the June 3 meeting is being factored into the draft document that will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council in September and October. A draft of the recommended changes to the TSP will be available for public review by August 2. Staff will be available to discuss any questions or concerns at an Open House event(s) sometime in late August or early September (details to be determined).
Open House Events
About a dozen people dropped in to the Open House event held on April 17 at St. Johns Episcopal Church to learn more about the TSP and the 2013 Update project. PDF versions of the information distributed at the Open House (including the poster boards that were on display) can be found below under "Supporting Documents."
As noted above, an additional Open House event(s) is planned for late August or early September, to give interested persons a chance to discuss the latest version of the draft document with staff. (Details are still being worked out and more info will be posted to this site when it is available.)
If you weren't able to attend the June 3 Public Meeting or the April 17 Open House and have any questions, please contact Brett Kelver in the Planning Department at (503) 786-7657 or kelverb@ci.milwaukie.or.us.
