Oregon Statewide Planning Goal 10 Housing requires the city to conduct a Housing Capacity Analysis (HCA) every six years. An HCA includes an assessment of current and future (20 year) demand for housing units across a range of prices, rent levels, locations, housing types, and densities. The HCA then compares these needs with the community's 20-year supply of buildable residential land.

Fire & Heat Safety

Although Milwaukie generally enjoys temperate summers, climate change has brought increasingly frequent periods of high temperatures in recent years. These temperatures can increase fire danger and the risk of heat-related illnesses during summer months.

Winter Weather Preparedness

Ice and snow are part of life in the Pacific Northwest. Although Milwaukie usually only experiences a few days of winter weather each year, it is important to be prepared.

Individual Preparations
Preparing for winter weather means making sure that you have the supplies you need. If you have already followed the steps laid out on OEM's Two Weeks Ready page (www.oregon.gov/oem/hazardsprep/Pages/2-Weeks-Ready.aspx) you are on your way!

Earthquake Preparedness

Earthquakes can happen at any time of the year and occur without warning. The Milwaukie area is prone to earthquakes and will be affected by the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake when it occurs.

If you are caught in an earthquake, remember to drop to your knees, cover your head and neck with your arms, and, if possible, hold on to sturdy cover, like a table leg.
