Ann Ober Steps Down as City Manager for New Role With Washington County

Ann Ober, who has served as city manager for the past seven and a half years, has submitted her resignation to Milwaukie City Council to take on a new endeavor as an assistant county administrator with Washington County. Her last day with the City of Milwaukie is April 8.

“Ann has made a tremendous impact in our community and we’re very grateful for her dedication to Milwaukie over the years,” said Mayor Lisa Batey. “Her thoughtful approach to carrying out projects and compassion for community members has helped us achieve success in ways that go far beyond just checking a box.”

12 arrested during interagency Human Trafficking Mission

Milwaukie, OR – on 2/28/24, Milwaukie Police participated in an Interagency mission targeting human trafficking. Decoy officers posed as both sellers of sex and purchasers of sex on popular online dating sites and applications. Investigators directed those on the dating sites who agreed to sexual acts in exchange for money to two different locations in the City of Milwaukie.

This package of proposed code amendments involves a comprehensive review and overhaul of Title 17 – Land Division. The city has periodically made small amendments to Title 17 but has not done a comprehensive review in many years. The proposed amendments affect nearly every section of Title 17, with the following objectives:
• Ensure that the code accurately reflects current state law;
• Include clear and objective standards;
• Remove redundant or confusing language;
• Clarify and simplify review processes to the benefit of both the applicant and staff; and

The city proposes to adopt revisions to multiple sections of the zoning code to implement the Neighborhood Hubs initiative that came out of the 2020 comprehensive plan.  This package of code amendments are intended to broaden permitted uses and streamline review processes in the Hubs so that more activity can occur.  These amendments include upzoning existing some commercial properties, rezoning key properties where hubs-like activities are already occurring, and expanding the lists of permitted uses.

It’s been a long time coming, but both Henry Point Development and the City of Milwaukie have signed off on the closing documents, making Henry Point Development the official new owner of the historic city hall building at 10722 SE Main. St.

Pedestrian struck by suspected impaired driver

Milwaukie, OR – on 1/28/24 at approximately 9:30 AM, Milwaukie Police Officers were called to the intersection of SE Monroe St. and SE Wood Ave. on the report a person was struck by a vehicle on the roadway. Officers arrived along with medical personnel and located a 67 year old female conscious and suffering from cuts and unknown internal injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
