Alerts & Updates

Update June 28th, 2019: Work is complete! The walking path between Wake Street and Olsen Street has been paved and is open for use.

Update May 3rd, 2019: The last section of sidewalk was poured last week, and the final landscaping restoration work was completed along the right-of-way in the new planter strips. The anticipated date for paving the walking path between SE Wake and Olsen is July/August 2019.

Update April 17th, 2019: Much work has been done to prepare the site so that the remainder of the sidewalk on SE 29th Avenue can be completed. Last week, two trees and a power pole were removed. Work on the sidewalk is scheduled for this week.

Update March 29th, 2019: Most of the sidewalk has been completed on SE Wake Street and SE 39th Avenue. Two trees and a power pole will be removed and then the remainder of the sidewalk will be installed. The stormwater planters at the corner of SE Wake Street and 39th Avenue are under construction. The paving of the pedestrian path has been delayed and will not occur during this week of spring break due to a materials delay.

Update March 8th, 2019: Construction has begun! Demolition along 39th Avenue is complete and curbs have been poured. Some driveways along Wake and 39th have been formed and poured. Concrete will need to cure for several days before it can support the weight of vehicles. Sidewalks are being formed and inspected to ensure ADA compliance before the concrete is poured.

Due to complications from utility pruning and excavation, two trees on 39th Avenue will be removed under an emergency permit.

Update February 15th, 2019: Construction is anticipated to begin Feb. 19. Crews will move equipment onto the project site and begin excavating the public right-of-way to prepare for the construction of new sidewalk. If you live on the north side of Wake Street or SE 39th Avenue between Wake and Roswell Street, please remove plants and personal belongings from right-of-way by Feb. 15. Crews will carefully relocate mailboxes that need to be moved. Members of the project team will directly contact residents whose yard or driveway will be impacted by this sidewalk project. If you have questions or require special access during construction, contact info@milwaukiesafe.org.

Preparation and paving of the pedestrian path will occur during the week of spring break, March 25-29.

Update: The contract has been awarded to D & D Concrete and Utilities Inc.
