Climate Action Week - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Twenty percent of the region’s landfill waste is food. That’s enough to fill 5,000 semi-trucks each year! Food is carbon intensive to transport, and once it’s in the landfill, food waste makes greenhouse gases and contributes to climate change.

But there’s an easy fix! Support local food sources by choosing local vendors or growing your own delicious produce. There are multiple community gardens in Milwaukie, find one near your home and get digging!

Climate Action Week - Personal Transportation

Riding a bike, walking, and taking public transportation is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint while enjoying the city's natural and historical scenery. Using active transportation, even for small trips and errands, adds up to big carbon savings for the community! Need that extra boost to get on your bike?

The Bike More challenge is starting the month of May – sign up, bike when possible, and win fun prizes!

Climate Action of the Day: Sign yourself, friends, and family up for the Bike More Challenge

Climate Action Week - Home Energy and Efficiency

Did you know that residential buildings in Milwaukie account for roughly 18% of the city’s carbon emissions? That was almost 48,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2016 – as if over 52 million pounds of coal were burned to power and heat the city's homes!

The easiest way to reduce your household carbon impact, fight climate change, and save money is to make your home energy and water efficient!

Climate Action of the Day: Give your house a quick efficiency makeover through Energy Trust of Oregon
