Scores, labels and ratings are a regular part of how we communicate information. We consult miles-per-gallon ratings on cars, nutrition labels on food, and Energy Guide labels on appliances to make informed consumer decisions. However, consumer labeling for homes is inconsistent and unavailable in most real estate markets.

The Oregon Department of Energy is assisting communities in implementing Home Energy Score programs to fill that gap of information - helping home owners and buyers understand the energy efficiency and cost of a home.

The city is considering adopting a Home Energy Score program for Milwaukie, requiring homes listed for sale to be assessed for home energy assets and the information shared with potential buyers.

On July 10th from 6pm-8pm, the city is hosting a Home Energy Score Community Forum in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Milwaukie Home Energy Score Community Forum will help Milwaukie residents better understand the home energy score program and provide feedback  before going to Council.

6pm to 7pm: Informational presentations from Milwaukie staff, City of Portland, and Oregon Department of Energy will provide Milwaukie residents with a background on Home Energy Score programs, the success of the Portland HES program, and why it's important for Milwaukie's climate goals.

7pm to 8pm: Milwaukie staff will be present with informational resources and visuals to help the community betterunderstand the Home Energy Score program, and will take questions from community members

PDF's of the presentations from ODOE, City of Portland, and Milwaukie can be found at the bottom of this events page.

We look forward to seeing you there!
