Climate Action Week - Natural Resources
Date
Milwaukie is home to a beautiful urban forest. Besides its importance to community health, habitat, and historical character, the city's urban forest captures carbon and slows down climate change. Milwaukie has goals to expand its tree canopy to 40% by 2035 so there is a lot of work to do!
Climate Action of the Day: Volunteer with a local nature organization and/or sign up to be an Arbor Day Foundation Member and receive free trees to plant in your yard or neighborhood
Milwaukie has many amazing organizations working to improve and protect habitats and natural areas. Here is a list of local organizations. Sign up to volunteer at one of their upcoming events or activities or ask them how you can help in other ways:
- Friends of Elk Rock Island-Spring Park (FERI-SPARK) - Formed in 2018 to provide stewardship to Elk Rock Island and Spring Park.
- Friends of Tideman Johnson Park - Next work party is on May 4 (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.)
- Johnson Creek Watershed Council
- North Clackamas Urban Watersheds Council
- Three Creeks Natural Area Cleanup - May 23 (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.)
- North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) offers more than 140 different volunteer positions!
Looking to improve your yard or national forest with a beautiful tree? Become an Arbor Day Foundation Member! For only $10, you can become a member and receive up to 10 trees to either be planted at your home or donated to a forest in need. Learn more and sign up today!
