2018-2019 Planning Internship Announcement

City of Milwaukie, OR – 2018-19 Planning Internship Announcement

Open until filled – If not filled by October 5, 2018, the position will be reposted

The City of Milwaukie, Oregon is seeking a smart, enthusiastic, and productive candidate to assist the planning staff with a variety of planning projects.  In 2017, the Milwaukie City Council adopted a new community vision and action plan that affirms the City’s commitment to becoming a highly sustainable, equitable, and livable community.  The adoption of the vision was the first step in a multiyear effort to update the City Comprehensive Plan.  Key issues to be addressed in the plan update include housing, neighborhood service hubs, walkability, economic development, public facilities, Willamette Greenway protection, and climate policies.   Depending on interests and aptitude, the person hired for this internship will likely be assisting with aspects of the Comprehensive Plan update.

The position may involve research, technical writing, analysis of data, data input into the records management system, administrative assistance, meeting preparation, presentations to boards or committees, and preparation of reports, maps or graphics.  General knowledge of planning principles and GIS is expected.

The supervisor for this internship will be Planning Director Denny Egner, FAICP, but one of the City's planners/project managers will likely provide day-to-day direction for specific tasks.  The internship will begin in mid-September.  The position is funded under the City’s current biennial 2018/2020 budget.  The length of the appointment is negotiable.  The work location is 6101 SE Johnson Creek Blvd – just off the Springwater Corridor regional bike path.  The position will pay $16.95 per hour (except for sick time, the position is not benefit eligible) and the candidate will be expected to work an average of 16-20 hours per week.
