City Receives Funding to Complete Three Neighborhood Parks

The City of Milwaukie is expected to receive more than $2.25 million to complete the development of three neighborhood parks: Balfour Park, Bowman-Brae Park and Scott Park. The funding will add park amenities and equipment, while creating gathering spaces and increasing art.

Milwaukie Declares Local State of Emergency Due to Heat, Bans All Fireworks Within City Limits

The City of Milwaukie has declared a local state of emergency due to the ongoing extreme heat and high risk for wildfire, along with the Excessive Heat Warnings issued for the region by the National Weather Service.

Boat Ramp and Parking Lot Closed in Milwaukie Bay Park on June 19 for Juneteenth Celebration

The Black community of Milwaukie is organizing its first Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Milwaukie Bay Park, 11211 SE McLoughlin Blvd. In preparation for the event that day, the parking lot is closed from 1 to 6 p.m. The boat ramp is also closed during this time.

Hamid Shibata Bennett Named Milwaukie's Volunteer of the Year for 2020

City Council has selected Hamid Shibata Bennett as the 2020 Volunteer of the Year. Donating his time and talents for multiple organizations in the area, a difficult year filled with uncertainty didn’t diminish his passion to help the Milwaukie community—in fact, it motivated him to do even more.

Funding Available for Second Round of Business Relief Grants

On Monday, July 20 the City of Milwaukie will open a second round of small business grants for the local business community. The city received $35,000 from the Business Oregon COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Matching Fund, as well as $1,000 donated by NW Natural, for a total of $36,000 available in grant funding. The application period is open until Friday, July 24 at 5 p.m.

Relief Fund Established for Milwaukie Business Owners

On April 7, City Council adopted a resolution establishing a business relief fund to support small businesses in Milwaukie impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The fund will provide one-time grants up to $5,000 to businesses for working capital expenses, such as payroll, lease or commercial mortgage payments, utilities, insurance and inventory, among others.

City Council Declares State of Emergency

At its Tuesday, March 17 meeting, City Council declared a state of emergency for Milwaukie due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. The declaration ensures the City of Milwaukie will have access to regional, state and federal resources, as they are needed.

Milwaukie took preventative measures this week in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by closing city buildings and the Ledding Library, and directing many city staff to work remotely.

Monroe Greenway Project Awarded Regional Grant

Last month, Metro Council approved a more than $3.8 million grant to fund design and construction of the Monroe Street Greenway. This critical grant will help the city leverage $6.7 million in state and local funding, providing the final financing component needed to design and construct the 2.2 miles of greenway within city limits. 

Milwaukie Declares Climate Emergency

Last week, City Council unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing the declaration of a climate emergency. This declaration reinforces Milwaukie’s commitment to climate action, and highlights the importance of city-led actions called for in the climate action plan.
