80 Years from Incarceration - Japanese American Story

Milwaukie Museum along with our partners City of Milwaukie, Willamette Falls Studio, and the Japanese American Museum of Oregon (JAMO) are proud to present the first Ledding Library Lecture Series of this year entitled 80 Years from Incarceration - Japanese American Story Wed., Feb. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. live on Comcast Channel 30 and the City of Milwaukie YouTube Channel.

Join us for a commemoration of the 80th year anniversary of Japanese Incarceration by discussing the incarceration of Japanese Americans before and during World War II and the aftermath. Amy Mishima Peterson, a Sansei (3rd generation Japanese American), is a docent and speaker for JAMO. She will examine the overall history of Japanese Americans in our region including the years of incarceration. Jacob Sherman, an avid historian and local researcher on Nikkei, will explore the Milwaukie Japanese American Families and their influence on our city. Councilor Desi Nicodemus will give a special address as well.

Along with the program, Ledding Library will have a traveling trunk display from JAMO on site so you can learn more about Japanese American History and on February 15th during the City Council meeting, there will be a Proclamation honoring the Japanese American Families as well.
