Milwaukie Business Relief Fund

OVERVIEW

To support Milwaukie small businesses that were impacted by the Governor’s executive orders and businesses that have negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the city created the Milwaukie Business Relief Fund. To date, the city has issued three rounds of Business Relief Fund grants totaling $252,257. Milwaukie City Council allocated $132,000 from the CET revenue for economic development, and the city received $120,257 from the State of Oregon COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Matching Fund issued by Business Oregon.

Milwaukie Business Relief Fund Rounds 1, 2, and 3:

April 2020  - The city awarded 47 businesses a total of $132,000 to support small businesses impacted by COVID-19 for Round 1.

September 2020 - The city awarded 15 businesses a total of $35,000 as a part of the State of Oregon COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Matching Fund. Business Oregon provided the city with an additional $97,000 in funding via the COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Matching Fund, fully matching the funds provided by the city.

October 2020 - The city opened applications for Milwaukie Business Relief Fund Round awarding $85,257 to 25 businesses in the time period allowed by Business Oregon. $9,567 was returned to Business Oregon and will be reallocated in future grant cycles. 

Grant Recipient Highlights:

  • 94% to businesses with 10 or fewer employees
  • 73% to Women Owned Businesses
  • 41% to People of Color Owned Businesses
  • 32% to Food Service (restaurants, coffee shops and bars)
  • 26% to Personal and Business Services (salons, barbershops, massage and tattoo providers)
  • 15% to Medical and Dental Clinics (acupuncture, chiropractic and therapy services)

Use of the funds was not restricted by the city or the state and may be expended as needed for working capital expenses, such as payroll, lease or commercial mortgage payments, utilities, insurance and inventory, or other uses.
