Capital Improvement Projects

The Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) provides guidance for the city capital investments in fleet, facilities and infrastructure. Planning for these CIP investments are within the city’s master plan documents (Water, Sewer, Storm, Transportation, and Parks), extensions of the city’s Comprehensive Plan. These plans illustrate the long-term needs and goals of each department formed by community input, advisory groups, expert consultants, and city staff. The Planning Commission and City Council goals, operational (i.e. service delivery) needs, and regulatory requirements further refine and shape the CIP. Projects within the CIP are prioritized and matched with projections of future revenues.

Safe Access for Everyone (SAFE)

Safe Access for Everyone (SAFE) is the city's program to improve safety for people walking, biking and more. SAFE calls for upgrading the city’s network of connections, such as sidewalks, ramps and crossings to fill network gaps, replace portions that don’t meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and remove barriers for people to get where they need to go safely. Visit the SAFE page to access a map that shows exactly where these projects are happening including several streets in Ardenwald and central Milwaukie.

Monroe Greenway

As an important east-west route across Milwaukie, Monroe Street connects several Neighborhoods and Downtown Milwaukie and has been identified in the city’s Transportation System Plan as a neighborhood greenway. Neighborhood greenways are low-volume, low-speed routes that provide safe, quiet routes for motorists, pedestrians, and bicycles. Neighborhood greenways often include improvements that reduce vehicle speeds (for example, with curb extensions or mini traffic circles), which makes them safer and more inviting for neighbors, walkers, and bikers, while also reducing cut-through traffic from outside the neighborhood.

29th Ave to Monroe St Connection (planning only)

The city will be awarded a State of Oregon grant to provide design assistance to come up with the best way to provide a safe bicycle connection between the proposed 29th Ave Neighborhood Greenway and the Monroe Street Neighborhood Greenway. Click the link above to learn more about the project.
