The Library Board is comprised of nine (9) volunteer citizen members including two (2) youth members who meet on the 2nd Monday of each month and serve as advisors the City Council and library staff regarding the needs of the library and its patrons. The Board establishes and pursues an annual Work Plan that identifies various projects which include tasks assigned by the Milwaukie Municipal Code (MMC) such as:

  • Reviewing library policies;
  • Commenting on property or monetary donations to the library;
  • Commenting on the annual operating budget for the library; and
  • Commenting on the location of library facilities.

Members of the Board are appointed by the Council and serve for established terms, as laid out in the MMC. Upon completion of a term or when a member resigns, a vacancy is created. Vacancies are advertised through regular City channels, candidates are recruited, and interviews are held to recommend to Council individuals to be appointed to vacant positions. If there is a vacancy and you are interested in serving, please see the Boards and Commissions Online Application link below.
